A quick google search of " communicating science" pulled up seven and a half MILLION hits. The first couple of pages full of PDFs and websites all designed to help the scientist get their ideas across to the general public, so why are we so bad at it? Why do we allow the media to take over, edit our words, pick up on the uncertain no matter how small and create panic?
Maybe as scientists we have gotten lazy or perhaps become agoraphobic to the "real world", that is the world outside our labs and our peers that speak our language. This has made me quite angry for a Friday afternoon and I think we need to find a way of doing something about it!
