Social media is fantastic, nearly all of us now have a Face Book, a Twitter or a MySpace Page, and while it's been known for bands and brands to use these sites to "connect" with their fans, science communities are now realising the huge importance of this and are setting up their own social media feeds.
For example in the Geoscience community both the BGS (British Geological Survey) and the USGS (United States Geological Survey) both have Face Book pages and post small factoids and stories that most of the public will find really interesting. So as the general public can't normally access the material that scientists use such as journals, should we be using Social Media to connect more to the public?
